Cold-work tool steels which include D2, D3, D4, D5, and D7 steels are high-carbon, high-chromium steels. Apart from D3 steel all group D steels have 1% Mo and are air hardened. Type D3 steel is oil-quenched; though small sections can be gas quenched after austenitization using vacuum. As a result, tools made with type D3 steel tend to be brittle during hardening. Type D2 steel is the most commonly used steel among the group D steels. The D3 steels contain 1.5 to 2.35% of carbon and 12% of chromium.AISI D3 Cold Work Steel has high strength, good hardenability and wear resistance. D3 is suitable for applications such as complex blanking and forming tools for long runs and for hard and abrasive materials.

OHNS - Oil-hardening, non-deforming tool steel

OHNS steel is a general purpose tool steel that is typically used in applications where alloy steels cannot provide sufficient hardness, strength and wear resistance.OHNS Round Bar is an oil-hardened, non-shrinkage steel alloy grade. This term refers to steel grades that exhibit little change in volume in an annealed condition after being hardened and tempered at relatively low temperatures.Din 2379 Consolidates maximum wear resistance, great durability, exceptional front line maintenance and treating resistance 12 % ledeburitic chromium steel. It can be nitrided after special heat treatment. It can be utilized as threading rolls and dies, icy trimming, cutting and stamping tools for sheet thickness's up to 6 mm, accuracy cutting instruments for sheet thicknesses up to 12 mm.
